Agri, infra damage due to monsoon rains now at P1.4-B

MANILA — Damage to agriculture and infrastructure caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical cyclones “Henry”, “Inday” and “Josie” has been placed at PHP1,377,090,105, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on its 6 a.m. Wednesday update.

This can be broken down into PHP896,721,105 for agriculture and PHP480,369,000 for infrastructure, NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said.

Damages were reported in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A (Calabarzon), 4B (Mimaropa) 6, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Also, 566 areas in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, 6, CAR and National Capital Region (NCR) have reported flooding in which floodwaters have already subsided in 321 localities.

Jalad added that 99 road sections and eight bridges were affected by inclement weather in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, CAR and NCR.

The NDRRMC chief also reported that fatalities to the above-mentioned weather disturbances have now reached eight along with one injured and one missing. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
