Aid handed in cash in some NCR areas

Some local government units in the National Capital Region (NCR) have chosen to distribute the assistance in cash in line with the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

A total of ₱604 million was downloaded to the local government of Paraῆaque City for residents affected by the ECQ in the Greater Manila Area.

The payout began today in Barangay Vitalez and was attended by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rolando Bautista and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya.

In Caloocan City, an estimated 360,000 families are expected to receive ₱4,000 each from the ₱1.3 billion granted by the national government.

Qualified beneficiaries are required to present a text message stating their reference numbers to claim the cash aid.

The local government of Manila continued the simultaneous distribution of assistance today to residents of more than 50 barangays. Manila was granted ₱1.5 billion which is being distributed in cash.

The DILG said local governments have 15 days to complete the distribution of aid since all LGUs in the NCR Plus area have received the funds from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). The DSWD said it should be “given expeditiously” and to prevent delays.

Meanwhile, LGUs are reminded to do away from politicking in the actual payout of the social assistance and that the list of beneficiaries should be made public. – Report from Patrick de Jesus/AG-jbb
