MANILA — Jerwin Ancajas made an impression in his first fight in the United States, successfully defending his IBF junior bantamweight title by beating Mexican Israel Gonzalez via knockout in Corpus Christi on Sunday (Philippine time).

Ancajas started strong, quickly flooring Gonzalez with his trademark left hook right at the very first round.

Ancajas then put up a boxing clinic the rest of the way, delivering crisp shots at Gonzalez, who tried to go toe-to-toe in the fifth round.

Gonzalez also tried to get it on with Ancajas midway through the tenth round, but that opened the door for Ancajas to deliver another knockdown with a left hook.

Shortly afterward, Ancajas connected with a devastating left to the head of Gonzalez that knocked out the game challenger.

Ancajas, whose knockout came at the 1:50 mark of Round 10, moves up to 27-1-1 with 19 knockouts, while Gonzalez fell to 20-2, and getting knocked out for the first time in his pro career. (PNA)
