Communications Secretary Martin M. Andanar discusses President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s legacy during an interview at DZMM TeleRado on July 16, 2019.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s accomplishments in his first three years in office set the bar high for the next administration, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar said.

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said that the President’s speech during the 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday will reflect the “happy” and “hopeful” mood that Joyce Bernal—the person tapped to direct the speech— aims to have.
“Mayroon talaga tayong rason (There’s really a reason).

We’re just coming off of the huge victory in the midterm elections. Nagkaroon ng SWS survey, satisfaction is 80% (of Filipinos),” Andanar said in an interview with DZMM TeleRadyo on Tuesday evening, July 16, when asked whether the President’s speech will indeed be happy and hopeful.

“But the important message to really listen to is kung ano yung mga gagawin (what are the tasks) for the next three years. Now, there’s the poverty alleviation. Bringing down poverty from 21 to 14 percent, and bringing our economy to the upper-middle class by the end of his term.

There’s also the ‘Build, Build, Build,’ the infrastructure projects. And thirdly, the peace and order. The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict,” he added.

Andanar noted that President Duterte will leave a lasting legacy once he follows through with the rest of his promises.

“Ano ba ang makakikita natin for the next three years? Matatapos ba ‘yung Subway System? Matatapos ba ‘yung kalye? Matatapos by ‘yung mga bridges? (What will we see for the next three years? Will the subway system be completed? Will the roads be completed? Will the bridges be completed?” Andanar said.

“Because that’s really the hard legacy of the President. Kapag na-lay na ‘yung plano for the next three years, dito rin papasok yung kaba ng susunod na presidente. Kung sinuman ‘yung magiging pangulo sa 2022, ay siyempre kailangan higitan niya (When the plan for the next three years is laid out, this is when the next president will get nervous. Whoever becomes the president in 2022, of course he needs to surpass that),” he added.
“Setting the bar, that’s the right term. Setting the bar for the next president, for the next generation of Filipinos,” Andanar noted.
