MANILA — Filipino golfer Angelo Que is the latest addition to the cast of the Maybank Championship.

Que becomes the fifth Southeast Asian golfer who will participate in the said tournament from March 21-24 at the Saujana Golf & Country Club in Shah Alam, Malaysia.

He will be joined in the ASEAN category by Ye Htet Aung of Myanmar, Danny Masrin and George Gandranata of Indonesia, and Johnson Poh of Singapore.

“We see [the ASEAN category] as an extension of our commitment to support the growth of local talent in the region,” said Maybank Group president and chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Farid Alias.

“We hope the opportunity provided to the five ASEAN players in particular will enable them to lift their game further and inspire even more young talents in the region to aim to be among the world’s best.”

Also joining the Maybank Championship are Ernie Els of South Africa, Padraig Harrington of Ireland, Shinichi Mizuno of Japan, and late additions Thomas Bjorn of Denmark and Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain.

“The inclusion of Que in the ASEAN category, along with Thomas Bjørn and Miguel Ángel Jiménez, is exciting news for golfing fans and will certainly add to the stiff competition expected this year,” Alias said.

The Maybank Championship is sanctioned by the European and the Asian Tours.
