SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique –The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), together with its municipal counterpart and national government agencies in Antique, will be on hand to assist motorists and tourists following the activation of the “Lakbay Alalay” program this Holy Week.

PDRRM officer, Broderick Train, said in an interview Tuesday that they will deploy personnel and rescue volunteers to assist motorists.

“We have personnel and volunteers deployed to maintain road safety, especially in critical areas,” he said, although he did not mention the number of personnel to be deployed.

Meanwhile, Train said that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) District Office in Antique is already putting up warning signs in upland Hamtic, particularly in Barangay Fabrica, where the Ceres bus fell off the cliff on the evening of April 5, causing the death of three passengers.

“The DPWH is putting warning signs so that the motorists or bus drivers could be warned to slow down,” he said.

Train added that aside from assisting motorists passing the mountainous part of Antique from Iloilo City, the PDRRMC is also putting up an Information Center at Lipata Port and in Malumpati, Pandan where the influx of tourists is expected.

He also cautioned the public against exposing themselves to too much heat while on vacation in Antique this Holy Week or participating in the Visita Iglesia or pilgrimage that could cause heat stroke.

The Lakbay Alalay that was activated in Antique province last April 10 will be on the road until April 17.
