Antique ‘sacadas,’ dialysis patients receive livelihood projects

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The province has distributed livelihood projects to sugar migrants (sacadas) and dialysis patients at the capitol lobby on Tuesday.

Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao said the livelihood projects are in the form of grocery items to help start a sari- sari store.

“I want to see their faces and smiles because through this livelihood project they again feel they (sacada and dialysis patients) are useful part of their families,” the governor said as to why she wanted to lead the distribution.

Cadiao said that this livelihood project extended by the provincial government is one of a kind not only in Western Visayas, but also in the entire country.

One of the four sari-sari store recipients, Melbor Estrada of Barangay Iguirindon, San Remigio said he is very grateful for the grocery items given to him by the provincial government.

“The sari-sari store will be a big help for me in starting my own business,” he said.

He said that he worked as a “sacada” about four years ago and he found working in the sugarcane fields of Negros Occidental very hard. He said he wanted to have a means of income right in their barangay.

Based on the latest record of the provincial government, only around 4,000 of the 10,000 recorded sacadas from Antique in 2015 are still in Negros Occidental.

Meantime, dialysis patients were also provided with a livelihood project aside from providing free dialysis treatment at the Culasi District Hospital and at the provincial hospital.

The governor also released wheelchairs to two persons with disabilities and to numerous individuals through the aid to individuals in crisis situation. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
