Malacañang has declared April 21 as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement was made on Friday, April 14, through Proclamation No. 201 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

“[The] National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended the declaration of Friday, 21 April 2023, as a national holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadan),” part of the proclamation read.

It noted that the declaration seeks to “bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness,” and to allow the nation to join in peace and harmony the Muslim community in observing the event.

With this, the public is expected to experience another long weekend as the holiday falls on a Friday.

The Department of Labor and Employment has yet to release an advisory on the corresponding wage calculation for April 21. – cf
