ARMM solon survives ambush, helper killed in Davao City

DAVAO CITY – One person died in an ambush on a vehicle carrying a lawmaker of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao representing Maguindanao province’s second district on Monday afternoon in this city.

Police said Maguindanao Assemblyman Sidik Amiril, his helper Berry Adas ,and security escorts Kaharudin Manda and Jastipy Mamadras, were on board a black pickup driven by Moktar Adam, and were traversing the corner of Macupa and Chico Streets, Phase 4, Cuidad Esperanza in Cabantian, Buhangin District, when they were waylaid at around 2:30 p.m by persons on a gray SUV, who had motorcycle-riding men as back up.

In an initial report, the police said Adas, who was at the back of the pick-up, was hit and died on the spot due to a lone gunshot wound in the head.

Ciudad Esperanza is a residential subdivision located some eight kilometers from the downtown area.

The incident is still under investigation and a team from the Buhangin Police Station is currently on a pursuit against the suspects. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
