Aug. 16 non-working holiday in Tuguegarao

TUGUEGARAO CITY — President Rodrigo Duterte, through Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea, has signed Proclamation No. 550 declaring Aug. 16 as a special non-working holiday here for the closing event of the Pavvurulun Afi Festival 2018.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the city of Tuguegarao be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies and allow students and employees to enjoy and participate as the city marks another year of merry-making,” Mayor Jefferson P. Soriano said Tuesday during a cooking contest at the city hall as part of the ongoing festivities.

The city government of Tuguegarao showcases the Ibanag culture and tradition in the celebration of Pavvurulun Afi Festival, the highlight of the 294th patronal fiesta here from August 8-16.

This gathers Tuguegarao residents to a week-long celebration culminating in a Mass and procession in honor of St. Hyacinth, the city’s patron saint.

“Pavvurulun” is an Ibanag word that means “get together”. (Simeon Dilan/PNA)
