In a bid to promote space awareness among Filipinos, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. declared July 29, Aug. 8 to 14 as “Philippine Space Week.”
Issued on July 25 and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Proclamation No. 302 stated that the declaration of the “Philippine Space Week” coincides with the enactment of Philippine Space Act on Aug. 8, 2019.
It highlighted the “substantial influence of space science and technology applications on the socioeconomic development of the country.”
“[There] is a need to promote space awareness, celebrate the significant contributions of Filipinos worldwide in the field of space science, and espouse the value, benefits and impacts of space science and technology applications on the lives of Filipinos,” the proclamation read.
Marcos also directed the Philippine Space Agency to promote the observance of the “Philippine Science Week” and identify programs, projects, and activities for the yearly celebration.
