Azkals zoom to 113th in FIFA rankings

MANILA — Following a historic clinching of an AFC Asian Cup spot, the Azkals set history again.

The Azkals achieved their highest FIFA ranking ever at 113th place in the latest release on Thursday.

The Azkals, who will make the Asian Cup for the first time ever, moved nine places up from 122nd in the March rankings, putting them in a tie with Kenya.

However, the Azkals stayed as the second best team in Southeast Asia as Vietnam maintained its hold and even zoomed 10 places up to 103rd overall.

The Azkals stayed at 19th spot in the Asian rankings despite Turkmenistan dropping 15 world spots to 129th overall as Kyrgyzstan made the biggest jump in the world rankings from 115th overall to 75th overall.

Germany and Brazil maintained the top two spots, but Belgium made a jump from fifth to third place, overtaking Portugal and Argentina.

Iran is still the top football team in Asia, although the team dropped three spots from 33rd to 36th place overall. (PNA)
