Bacolod City ‘Most Business-Friendly LGU’ nat’l finalist anew

BACOLOD CITY — The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has again included Bacolod City in the finalists’ roster of this year’s Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit (LGU) Awards under the City Level 1 Category.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia in a statement on Sunday said he was formally informed by the PCCI that Bacolod had advanced to the final judging of the competition’s 2018 edition.

“We are already a winner regardless of the final outcome because being a national finalist is a feat in itself. It bolsters our image as an investment haven. This is also very positive for our business climate,” the mayor said.

In 2017, Bacolod was also among the Top 3 finalists. It was the only highly-urbanized city outside of Metro Manila chosen as finalist.

Before this year’s awarding ceremony, mayors of finalist cities and municipalities were invited to an interview with the panel of judges on Tuesday at the PCCI Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

They will give a five-minute presentation on their LGU’s accomplishments or initiatives in the four award criteria under the Essential Indicators:  Fast-tracking Sustainable Local Economic Development; Improvement of Ease of Doing Business; Investment Promotion Initiatives; and Initiatives to Enhance Industry/Sectoral Competitiveness.

The awarding ceremony will be held on October 18-19 during the 44th Philippine Business Conference and Expo, with the theme, “Infrastructure and Digital Economy: The Game Changer”. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
