Bacolod police arrests 254 drug personalities in 5 months

BACOLOD CITY — The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) arrested 254 illegal drugs personalities in the past five months.

This is the highest record of arrests during the period December 5, 2017 to May 14, 2018 among all provincial and city police offices in Western Visayas, said BCPO, which released the data on Tuesday.

Of the 254 arrested suspects, 50 are included in the watchlist either as high value target or street level target while the remaining 204 are considered newly-identified drug personalities.

Senior Supt. Francisco Ebreo, city police officer-in-charge, said the accomplishment can be attributed to the intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign of the Bacolod police.

Ebreo also gave credit to the cooperation and support of the city and barangay officials and other local stakeholders.

In April alone, a total of 270.66 grams of “shabu” worth PHP4.06 million were seized by operatives in Bacolod.
Last month, 27 persons were apprehended in 16 anti-drug operations and 23 cases were filed.

On February 28, high value target Ginna Mariga and her brother Israel Mariga yielded PHP600,000 worth of “shabu” to operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) in a buy-bust at Barangay 28.

The operation against the Marigas follows the series of major drug hauls in Bacolod this February.

Last February 13, the CDEU seized PHP1.2 million in “shabu” during a buy-bust against three suspects on February 13 at Greensville 2 Subdivision, Barangay Villamonte.

On February 12, the Police Station 2 confiscated an estimated PHP150,000 worth of “shabu” from three suspects during a buy-bust along 6th-Lacson Streets.

On February 9, the CDEU arrested a suspected member of Berya drug group, who yielded PHP225,000 in “shabu” during the operation at the Abada-Escay relocation site in Barangay Vista Alegre.

Last February 2, police confiscated PHP300,000 worth of illegal drugs from two members of separate drug groups in a buy-bust at Barangay Mandalagan. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
