BAGUIO CITY – The City Health Services Office (CHSO) on Thursday said it is starting to note an increase in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, after logging a 1.24% hike in its positivity rate in a span of two weeks.

Dr. Rowena Galpo, City Health Officer, in an interview, said data from the University of the Philippines (UP) Baguio Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and CHSO showed that from a low of 0.2% logged from Dec. 16 to 22, the city’s positivity rate soared to 1.44% from Dec. 23 to 29.

Positivity rate is the percentage of COVID-19 tests performed which turned out positive in a certain area or region.

The Department of Health-Cordillera COVID-19 Tracker on December 25 showed the city has eight active cases, which grew to 40 on December 30.

Galpo reminded the public to abide by the minimum public health standards at all times.

“Let’s heed the reminder of the DOH to avoid unsafe holiday gatherings. Let us not make 2022, ‘2020 Too’,” she said.

The city continues to issue advisories reminding residents and tourists alike to strictly observe the health and safety protocols as the local government eased movement and entry protocols for non-essential travels.

The city has been receiving thousands of tourists since it opened its borders to non-essential travelers and increased its daily arrival limit from 2,000 to 5,000. (PNA) -ag
