BAI: Bird flu detected in Pampanga farm

The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) confirmed on Wednesday the detection of avian influenza A(H5N6) in an egg-producing farm in San Luis, Pampanga.

The DA has responded to the situation and culled nearly 40,000 chickens in the said farm to prevent transmission. The agency also inspected nearby farms and is currently conducting surveillance in nearby areas.

Based on the initial investigation, the bird flu possibly came from migratory birds that flock to San Luis, Pampanga. A farm in Nueva Ecija was also hit by bird flu last March but was immediately controlled.

The BAI has advised poultry producers to boost biosecurity and immediately report any unusual poultry deaths.

The news release of DA stated that reports or inquiries regarding “AI disease incidence” may be directed to Dir. Ronnie Domingo through 09951329339, 09208543119 or 09618889029. – Report from Cleizl Pardilla
