BARMM remains Delta variant-free region, low risk for COVID-19

Only the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has not been detected with COVID-19 Delta variant infection, the Department of Health reported.

In a Laging Handa public briefing on Tuesday (Aug. 31), BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim said the region remains at low risk for COVID-19.

Ebrahim also said the Bangsamoro Transition Authority has approved and allocated P50 million for medical oxygen supply procurement and preparations for a possible COVID-19 surge in BARMM.

As of Monday (Aug. 30), the region has detected 666 active COVID-19 cases. Of this, 381 are asymptomatic, 206 are mild cases, 69 are moderate cases, 9 are severe cases, and one is critical.

To date, Ebrahim said about 50% to 60% of its total population are already vaccinated with at least the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
