Batang Gilas members get BWB Asia Camp invites

MANILA — The future looks bright for two members of Batang Gilas.

Rence Padrigao and Raven Cortez got invites to participate in the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Asia Camp.

Both players, who played in the Philippines’ FIBA U16 Asian Championship team that clinched a spot in next year’s FIBA U-17 Championship, will be heading to New Delhi in India for the four-day training camp that will take place from May 30-June 2.

There are actually three Filipino players who will take part in the said training camp. Reuben Amado, who was part of Singapore’s SEABA U16 Championship team, also got an invite.

NBA veterans Corey Brewer, Caris LeVert, Kelly Olynyk, and Dwight Powell will serve as coaches.

Also coaching the BWB Asia Camp participants is former TNT import Darvin Ham, who is currently part of the Atlanta Hawks’ coaching staff.

The BWB camp series has become a stepping stone of some young basketball players to the NBA as more than 50 former campers eventually made it to the NBA. Twenty-four BWB alumni played this season. ( Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
