MANILA — Outgoing Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa reiterated his gratitude to President Rodrigo R. Duterte for giving him an opportunity to serve at the helm of the PNP.

In his speech during the testimonial parade in his honor at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Bagiuo City on Monday, dela Rosa , a member of the PMA Class of 1986 said he looked up to the President as a second father and mentor.

“I thank from the bottom of my heart, my mentor, my second father, my friend, my Commander-in-Chief and my President — no less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte — for his trust and confidence in me and for giving me the biggest break in my career as a police officer,” dela Rosa said.

“This is a long way from my humble home in Barangay Bato, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur where I nurtured my dreams of making a difference in this world,” dela Rosa said.

In an interview with reporters after the testimonial parade, dela Rosa reiterated that it will be up to incoming PNP chief Oscar Albayalde to name a replacement for the position of regional director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

“Ang hepe ang pipili ng tao (The chief will be the one to select people),” dela Rosa said.

Supposed frontrunners to the NCRPO post are Quezon City Police District Director Guillermo Eleazar, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Director Roel Obusan and Police Director for Operations Camilo Cascolan. ( Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
