BI appeals to stop spreading fake news on COVID-19

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has appealed to the public not to propagate fake news for it only aggravates the country’s problems in facing the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, Filipinos must stop posting misleading information about the travel ban on China over social media.

He has clarified that the flights in China are just restricted, but not totally banned. The flights to and from China, Hong Kong, Macau, and South Korea are still ongoing due to the exemption of some passengers.

The exemption includes returning Filipino families, foreigners with permanent resident visas, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Overseas Filipino Workers going to China except for the Province of Hubei and Wuhan City can still leave the country as long as they sign a waiver stating that they are aware of the risk of their travel. OFWs, permanent residents together with their dependents, and student visa holders can still go to Hong Kong, Macau, and North Gyeongsang, province of SoKor.
