In order for PH to draw more tourists and investors from the world’s uttermost populous nation and fastest growing economy, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has issued landed visas to the nationals from the People’s Republic of China (PROC).
Conforming to newly legitimate issued data by Philippines Department of Tourism, China had surpassed Japan as the third largest derivation of tourist in 2016, came after South Korea and United States.
All things considered, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente declared the new program after Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre issued Department Circular 042, granting visa upon arrival (VUA) to Chinese Nationals.
Morente stated that the program will be open to Chinese nationals who were members of tour groups organized by tour operators and also authorized by the Tourism Department; businessmen endorsed by local and foreign chambers of commerce and other government; and athletes and delegates on conventions and exhibitions.
“Through this scheme we aim to facilitate the expeditious entry and admission of Chinese nationals into the country and thus attract more tourists and investors from China,” the BI chief said.
Covered by the rules, interested Chinese nationals may apply for their landed visas through their tour operator at the BI for initial authorized stay of 30 days and they may apply for extension up to a max period of six months.
In relation to the rule, the applications for VUA supposedly filed at least 10 working days sooner before their arrival.
BI commissioner shall issue an approved order of VUA for the qualified applicants as shall be presented by the Chinese passengers to immigration officers upon arrival in the country.
Moreover, copies of order shall be furnished to BI port operations division, whose personnel (immigration officers) intend to implement the visa on travel documents of Chinese passengers during conducted arrival formalities at the port of entry.
The program was implemented at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and in eight other international airports (Clark, Mactan, and Kalibo) and seaports (Manila, Puerto Princesa, Subic, Laog, and Caticlan) over the country. | Renzie Nombre (OJT) – PTV
