A South Korean couple was apprehended by Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel on April 4 at their residence along Gallery Drive, Brgy. Carmona, Makati City.

The duo, identified as Choi Jeongyun and Kim Minwoo, were the subjects of red notices by the Interpol and have arrest warrants from the South Korean government for committing large-scale fraud in their home country.

Authorities alleged that the couple engaged in voice phishing operations on the internet which enabled them to defraud their victims of more than USD 840,000 by pretending to be bankers or representatives of a financial institution.

Choi allegedly worked as a profit manager while Kim was employed as manager and telemarketer for the syndicate since 2017.

Records from BI also show that the two aliens are already overstaying. They arrived in the country in 2019 and have not left since then.

The couple is now under the custody of Philippine authorities while awaiting deportation proceedings.
