Bicol Region sustains damages, thousands evacuated due to Quinta

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 5 reported that 18,000 families or 63,000 individuals have been evacuated due to typhoon Quinta which made its landfall over the weekend.

Authorities said 42,000 of them were brought to evacuation centers. Those in Albay evacuation centers have already been sent home, while those in Camarines Sur are scheduled to return home by Monday afternoon.

The typhoon made its first landfall in Albay on Sunday night, uprooting trees with its strong winds. A number of electrical posts were also bent which caused temporary power interruption.

Similar damages were reported in Camarines Sur, particularly along the national road. Many establishments in Naga City have closed in anticipation of the weather disturbance.

“So far po, as of 4:30 a.m., no reported casualties or injury sa (in the) report,” Camarines Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Public Information Officer (PIO) Estel Estropia stated.

Local PDRRMOs are currently conducting assessment on the worth and extent of the damage brought about by the typhoon. No casualties have been reported in the region.

Clearing operations were conducted by public works and highways personnel, and all roads are now passable in Albay. – Report from Patrick de Jesus
