BIFF behind explosion in South Upi causing death of one motorist and injuring another

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Authorities are still searching for the person responsible for leaving an improvised explosive device after it exploded resulting in the death of a motorist and injuring another in the town of South Upi province of Maguindanao around 6 o’clock in the morning January 25, 2021.

During the initial investigation conducted by the 57th Infantry “Masikap” Battalion and South Upi Municipal Police Station, the explosion occurred near the tower of a telecommunication company in Timanan Public Market, Brgy. Romongaob, South Upi.

The military and police arrived to assess the situation in the area and found a victim lying on the ground while the wounded was taken to South Upi Hospital.

Government troops discovered another secondary IED device left near the scene of the explosion.

Meanwhile, Joint Task Force Central Commander Major General Juvymax R. Uy condemned the incident which was carried out by the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters or BIFF group.

“We condemn the incident, we found out that the bomb was a signature made by the Daesh Inspired Group BIFF. They targeted the town’s local chief executive Mayor Reynalbert Insular. Mayor Insular would have gone through the area to go to Barangay Kuya for the settlement of a problem in the said Barangay but did not pursue due to the incident” said Maj. Gen. Uy.

Maj. Gen. Uy urged the populace to report any suspected objects or personalities that may cause terrorist attacks in their communities and further support the government security forces in preventing similar incidents.
