Over 7,000 barangays nationwide are now using the Barangay Information Management System (BMIS) as part of the national government’s push for full digital transformation.
In a press briefing at Malacañang on Tuesday, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the BMIS is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to fully adopt digitalization in order to provide more efficient and responsive public service.
According to the latest data from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), 11,658 barangays or 27.7% of the country’s 42,011 barangays have already been oriented on how to use the system.
“Para sa hakbang patungo sa full government digitalization ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., umabot na sa 7,083 barangays, o 16.9%, ang may access sa BIMS,” Castro said.

Developed in 2024 under the DILG’s Local Government Unit Support System (LGUSS), the BMIS is a centralized digital platform that stores, manages, and retrieves important barangay-level data, including household profiles, individual and deceased persons’ records, lists of barangay officials, and logs of complaints and inquiries.
The DILG stated the system aims to improve transparency, speed up transactions, and ensure the timely and accurate delivery of public services in the communities.
“Layunin ng DILG na magkaroon ng mas mabilis, mas efficient, at data-driven na barangay governance sa buong bansa sa ilalim ng BIMS program ng ahensya,” Castro added.
The agency also emphasized the importance of data privacy and security, as all barangays using the system are required to strictly follow confidentiality standards to protect the personal information of their residents.
The DILG aims to significantly increase the number of barangays using the BMIS by 2025, as part of its broader mission to strengthen local governance through digital innovation.
