MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) logged a collection surplus of close to P7 billion in November.

The latest data from the BOC’s Financial Service released on Wednesday (Dec. 1) showed a total collection of P58.789 billion for November, an increase of 13.39% from the target collection of P51.847 billion.

It added that 12 out of the 17 collection districts exceeded their target for the month.

These are the Ports of San Fernando, Manila International Container Port, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Batangas, Legaspi, Iloilo, Tacloban, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, and Limay.

To date, the BOC has collected P584.156 billion since January 2021, or 94.7% of the total 2021 collection target placed at P616.749 billion.

Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero attributed the positive collection performance to several factors, including the improvement in the volume of importation, improved valuation, the intensified collection efforts of all 17 ports.

He also cited the gradual improvement of the economy, reopening of businesses and borders, and the government’s efforts in ensuring the unhampered movement of goods domestically and internationally as among key factors that contributed to the positive collection figures amid the coronavirus pandemic.
