BOC shreds ₱30-M worth of smuggled cigarettes in CDO

The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Cagayan de Oro on Wednesday (Sep. 8) destroyed ₱30 million worth of smuggled cigarettes.

According to the BOC, 977 master cases of cigarettes or 48,850 reams have been destroyed using shredder equipment at the Digama Warehouse and Destruction Facility in Barangay Bayabas, Cagayan de Oro City.

The contraband was brought to the Mindanao Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and confiscated on May 20. The shipment was misdeclared as personal effects and was named to Lorna Oftana from General Santos City.  

Moreover, the bureau charged the consignee with a violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
