Bohol SP hails heroism of Las Vegas cabbie

TAGBILARAN CITY — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol lauded on Friday the heroism and courage of a Boholano taxi driver at the height of the mass shooting in Las Vegas early this month.

The Provincial Board approved a resolution en masse lauding the effort of hero taxi driver Winifredo “Wennie” Maquindang, a native of Loboc town in Bohol.

Loboc is about 39 minutes from capital Tagbilaran. It is the home of the world-famous Loboc Children’s Choir and known for its relaxing river tour.

The board hailed the courage of Maquindang and for his selflessness in extending help to the wounded victims of the horrible killing spree in Las Vegas.

Based on reports, Maquindang was waiting for passengers near the Mandalay Bay hotel where the gunman opened fire on the audience of a concert nearby.

He then asked the wounded to hop into his cab and brought them to the hospital.

The proponent of the resolution, Board Member Jane Acapulco Bautista, relayed the account of Maquindang during the mass shooting.

The taxi driver recounted having transported at least six victims to the hospital unmindful of the danger and risk that may come along the way.

Bautista said the exploits of Maquindang only made the “Boholanos proud.”

The board member further said she is commending Maquindang for risking his own life to help those in need.
