Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go distributed financial and relief assistances on Wednesday, February 19, to more than 700 individuals who lost their homes in a fire on February 11 in Bocaue, Bulacan.
Go also offered to buy new uniforms and school supplies for affected students, pay for the fare of those who want to relocate to Visayas or Mindanao and assist patients who need medical services in Manila.
“Kung kailangan ninyong magpa-opera sa Manila, tutulungan ko po kayo. Kung kailangan ninyo ng dialysis o may sakit kayo sa puso, magsabi lang po kayo,” Go told the victims who resided in Sitio Ibayo at Barangay Antipona and are currently staying at an evacuation center at Barangay Igulot.
“Kahit mga hindi nasunugan, lumapit lang po kayo sa akin,” the Senator added.
He also encouraged the crowd to avail themselves of the services of the Malasakit Center at the Bulacan Medical Center in Malolos City. A project initiated by President Rodrigo Duterte and Go, the Malasakit Center provides medical and financial assistances from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
The fire victims also received financial assistance from the DSWD and Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP), livelihood assistance from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and housing assistance from the National Housing Authority (NHA).
“Ang NHA mag-iinterview sa inyo through your barangay chairman. Pili po kayo. Pwede kayong mag-avail ng housing materials assistance o ng murang pabahay dito sa Bocaue,” Go told the victims.
Authorities estimate that more than 170 families were staying in the 101 houses that the fire razed to the ground. No one was killed and two residents had minor injuries. “Ang importante walang nasaktan, at nandito ang gobyerno para tumulong sa inyo,” Go said.
In his message to the fire victims, Go emphasized that it is not only his duty to be a legislator. As a public servant, he said that it is also his duty to visit Filipinos, most especially those who live far from Metro Manila, in their times of need in order to listen to their concerns and provide solutions to their daily struggles.
“Trabaho namin sa Senado ang legislation, constituency at representation. Hindi naman lahat ng mga Pilipino ang makakapunta ng opisina namin para humingi ng tulong. Kaya kami na ang bababa sa inyo at pakinggan ang inyong mga hinaing at makapagbigay ng solusyon sa inyong mga problema,” he said.
“Trabaho po namin na magserbisyo sa bawat Pilipino, at gaya ng ipinangako ko noon, kahit saang sulok kayo ng Pilipinas ay pupuntahan ko po kayo hanggang kaya ng aking oras at katawan,” the senator added.
Go, whose advocacies include ensuring immediate government response to calamities and natural disasters, brought relief and financial assistance to each family.
