By Gabriela Baron

Boracay is among the world’s most sustainable destinations this year, according to travel and lifestyle site Hospitality Net.

Hospitality Net described Boracay as “the stuff Instagram dreams are made of.”

“After refocusing their efforts and allowing the island’s ecosystems to start to recover, Boracay is now responsibly welcoming visitors again, managing volumes with a daily tourist limit,” the site wrote.

“The island has also implemented an array of sustainable eco-tourism practices, including the adoption of electric tricycles, and now relies on solar power as their main energy source, seeking to ensure a long and healthy future,” it added.

Boracay Island was ordered close to tourists from April 26 to Oct. 25, 2018 to undergo rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, also among Hospitality Net’s list are Hoedspruit, South Africa; Stockholm, Sweden; Arusha, Tanzania; Merzouga, Morocco; Puerto Iguazu, Argentina; Villa de Leyva, Colombia; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Toronto, Canada; and Rishikesh, India. – ngs
