Boracay villages tighten issuance of IDs

BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan — With barely 15 days left before the temporary closure of the island, more people troop to get their barangay ID which will give them access to Boracay starting April 26.

Manocmanoc village chief Chona Gabay said the screening for the issuance of a barangay ID is being tightened.

She said natives of Boracay are being prioritized.

The barangay ID is issued to natives of Boracay, local and foreign residents, and workers who have stayed on the island for at least six months, said Gabay.

The IDs which are issued in the three villages of Boracay namely Manocmanoc, Balabag, and Yapak will temporarily allow bearer to enter the island while the new ID system proposed by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is being finalized.

She said there is no increase in ID fees despite the impending closure.

New ID applicants will still have to pay PHP200 and PHP100 for renewal.

New applicants are also required to show their birth certificate, government and schools IDs, barangay certificate and certificate of employment for workers.

She said they have been issuing barangay ID since 2010 which is valid for three years.

Gabay added that there is no directive yet given to them regarding the closure.
