BPOs in Iloilo need 5,000 workers

ILOILO CITY — llonggos are encouraged to take advantage of jobs being offered by various business process outsourcing (BPO) companies based in Iloilo.

Iloilo City mayor Jose Espinosa III on Monday announced that the industry is in need of 5,000 workers. “They will employ them immediately,” he said as the city hall will host the one-day job fair of BPOs this November 28.

Espinosa said that despite the high turnout of graduates every year, they still unable to cope with the increasing demand of BPOs. They still recruit from as far as Negros Occidental.

To better prepare city residents for BPO jobs, Espinosa said that he wanted to prioritize the establishment of speech laboratories.

He already instructed Ma. Mathilde Octavio, administrator of the Iloilo City College, to get in touch with the technician of the Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, a private school here, and ask details on how to establish a speech laboratory.

“Our BPOs do not need college graduates. They are only after those with good communication skills,” he said.

Iloilo City hosts 52 voice and non-voice BPO firms and more are coming in, according to Local Economic and Investment Promotion Office (LEIPO) head Ritchel Gavan.

The job fair will be held at the third floor of the Iloilo City hall. (PNA)
