Bustos Dam in Bulacan continues releasing water; 16 villages flooded

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — Bustos Dam is still releasing water on Saturday for the fourth consecutive day due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon and enhanced by tropical storm Ampil (Inday).

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Bulacan reported that as of 8 a.m. on Saturday, a total of 120 cubic meter per second (cms) of water is being released by Bustos Dam on its two sluice gates raised at four meters.

“As of Saturday morning, Bustos Dam water elevation was monitored at 16.92 meters; Ipo Dam at 101.08 meters; and Angat Dam at 194.05 meters compared to its flood season high water level of 17.50 meters, 101.00 meters and 210 meters, respectively,” Liz Mungcal, Bulacan PDRRMO chief.

On Wednesday, Bustos Dam started releasing water from its reservoir at 80 cms; Thursday 125 cms; and Friday 110 cms.

The PDRRMO also reported that a total of 16 barangays– three in Meycauayan City; 12 in Calumpit; and one in Marilao–were still under floodwater from three to three feet deep as of 7 a.m. Saturday due to high tide.
