C-5 South Link to ease traffic in Parañaque, Las Piñas, Cavite

MANILA — Traffic congestion is expected to ease in the cities of Parañaque and Las Piñas, as well as Cavite province once the construction of the C-5 South Link is completed by 2019.

The PHP12-billion 7.7-km. expressway will connect C-5 Road to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), enabling commuters and motorists from Parañaque, Las Piñas and Cavite to bypass Epifanio delos Santos Ave. (EDSA).

“Vehicles coming south from Parañaque will no longer need to pass by the area of Villamor Air Base, so dito made-decongest din natin ang SLEX, kasi pwede na rin sila dumiretso to Merville going South sa Las Piñas (The South Luzon Expressway will be decongested as they may now pass straight to Merville going south to Las Piñas),” Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Assistant General Manager for Planning Jojo Garcia said in a press briefing Friday.

“We welcome this project as this will help ease traffic congestion in Parañaque and its nearby areas,” Garcia added.

MMDA is coordinating with project contractor, Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), to help manage traffic congestion during the construction of the C-5 South Link.

The construction will cause heavy traffic, affecting Barangay Merville in Parañaque, and the West Service Road in Sucat up to CAVITEX by the third or fourth quarter of the year.

“There will be traffic expected probably before the end of December 2018 once we progress doing all the foundations and other girders that will support the full lanes of the expressway,” said MPTC assistant vice president for corporate communications, Arlette Capistrano.

The C-5 South Link is expected to accommodate 40,000 to 45,000 vehicles when it starts commercial operations by March 2019. (Aerol John Pateña, with reports from Michosha Anne de Guzman,OJT/ PNA)
