ILOILO CITY – -The gloomy weather seemed to condole with the Claveria family as they send to his final resting place their beloved Angelo, Friday afternoon.
Relatives and sympathizers dressed in white shirt printed with “Justice for Angelo Claveria” joined the long procession from the San Nicholas de Tolentino Church to the Cabatuan Catholic Cemetery in Brgy. Banguit as they paid respect for the last time to the Ilonggo overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was murdered in South Korea.
Jeanette Claveria, the younger sister of Angelo, said that their family is sad but at the same time happy because his remains were brought home.
“We will seek justice for Angelo Claveria,” she said as their next step after the burial.
She said that they have no updates with regard to the identity of her brother’s killer.
Meanwhile, Lea Aguirre, administrative head of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Western Visayas, said that their office guarantees that “their help will continue as mandated.”
She added that from what she heard, the “suspect is already here”.
“OWWA already referred it to the PNP,” she said.
OWWA gave PHP220,000 assistance to the family. The additional assistance is still being discussed by their management.
The skeletal remains of the 34-year-old OFW were found inside the water tank in South Korea two years after he last communicated with his family Christmas eve of 2015.
His remains arrived in his hometown at Zone 4, Rizal St. Poblacion Ilaya, Cabatuan in May 27, following the intervention of Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go who worked out the fast tracking of the repatriation.
Go also visited the wake of Claveria following his series of engagements in Iloilo Sunday.
In an interview, Go said that Angelo’s case will be among the topics that will be tackled during the visit of President Rodrigo R. Duterte to South Korea on June 3. (Perla Lena with Caihra Santillan and Rosilfa Mallada, OJT/PNA)
