CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The provincial government of Camiguin unveiled three local historical sites on Monday as part of its 51st founding anniversary.
The three sites — the Bonbon Church Ruins, Sunken Cemetery, and Moro Watch Tower — were declared by the National Historical Commission last December as National Cultural Treasures.
Gov. Maria Luisa Romualdo underscored the preservation of local historical sites, calling on teachers around the province to teach young people on the value of their heritage.
During her State of the Provincial Address on Sunday, Romualdo cited the province’s ongoing tourism development initiatives. One of these, she said, is the PHP72-million road construction and repair to improve accessibility.
The governor bared that the island recorded 688,587 tourist arrivals last year.
Among the tourism events that the island will host this year, she said, is the International Dive Photography Competition slated next month.
