Canadian firm opens upscale business hub in Davao

DAVAO CITY — A Canadian leasing firm has opened its 2,500-square meter hub in Davao City for leasing to Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), start-ups, private offices, and a co-working space for individuals, professionals, and students.

Asaad Qureshi, president and chief executive officer of Skynora, said he chose Davao City as the company’s first location in the Philippines “because it is very safe”.

“And, I am glad Mr. Rodrigo Duterte is the President, the more it becomes very safe here,” he said.

He said Davao is ready commercially and many are establishing their residences here too.

Based on Skynora’s market study, Qureshi said the city’s market is really good for commercial development. He noted many ongoing constructions, thus, co-working space is needed.

Qureshi said Skynora believes this is a good time to take the opportunity provided by a stronger local economy and continued entry of investors to start different ventures in Davao.

“There is a demand for office spaces in Davao from BPOs or outsourcing companies and it is the main reason why we are here,” he said, adding that start-ups, freelancers, professionals, and other individuals deserve a comfortable and spacious environment where they can productively and effectively work and at the same time collaborate with a pool of talents from here.

It is a plug and play setup because everything is taken care of by Skynora. He also noted that Davao City has a lot of freelance people and “we would like to help accelerate their online work by providing co-working space with premium amenities”.

“Skynora could be the office for the freelancers, for master’s students who want to have an excellent upscale library. This could be a place for the conduct of trainings and everyone is welcome here,” he said.

Skynora is also offering flexible terms, and the building is ready for BPO operations with lots of parking spaces. For the BPOs, Qureshi said he is getting lots of inquiries of more than a dozen who wanted to expand from Manila to Davao.

He said two BPO companies have already signified locating in their hub. He, however, would not yet give details but said these are US companies.

Skynora is also focusing on providing co-working spaces because spaces are occupied fast with the flow of their members coming in.

But, he said, expansion is part of Skynora’s future plans.

“We will be going into that although we haven’t look into details as this can be in other cities, like Tagum or Mati,” he said.

Qureshi pointed out its advantage over the small payers here.

“Everything with us is upscale even to the details of the physical structure with imported fixtures, including the smallest details and I am very hands on as I make sure that we put in what is best. The place is secured, with very good internet connections and the availability of free flowing coffee too,” he said. (PNA)
