Cavite steps up fire response training, capacity building

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – Some 64 personnel from various provincial government offices here undertook training on basic firefighting techniques at the provincial gymnasium to step up Capitol workers’ preparedness and response capacity during a fire and other emergencies.

The Cavite provincial government through its Office of Public Safety (PG-COPS) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Cavite started the fire safety training on Monday and expect trainees to use their knowledge and skills in their workplaces and homes.

The training included lectures and practical exercises on the nature and behavior of fire, classes of fire, parts and uses of fire extinguishers, fire emergency procedure and fire safety tips.

Actual demonstrations of firefighting and use of fire extinguisher were also conducted by trainers from the city BFP station personnel SFO2 Renato B. Amagan and FO1 Raph Robert U. Lagos.

The participants also undertook capacity-building on disaster preparedness, response and resilience especially on fire incidents pursuant to the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.

The law provides that agencies and offices shall provide their public sector employees training on emergency response and preparedness with a strong focus on gender responsiveness, sensitivity to indigenous knowledge systems and respect for human rights. (PNA)
