Cebu Capitol aims to collect P3.9B this year

CEBU CITY – The Cebu Provincial Government is targeting to earn PHP3.96 billion this year, the provincial treasurer disclosed Thursday.

Atty. Roy Salumbre, in an interview Thursday, said Cebu Province’s revenue collection target for calendar year 2019 is actually just a little bit lower than last year’s PHP4-billion income goal.

“Our target last year was PHP4 billion, which we surpassed after we sold the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) to Mandaue City,” Salumbre said.

The Province collected PHP4.3 billion last year, exceeding its target following the PHP300-million purchase of the CICC by the Mandaue City government.

Although this year’s target is lower, Salumbre said they will continue to intensify their collection efforts in order to achieve or surpass their goal.

He said they need to boost their collection of taxes and regulatory fees, and not just rely on the revenues coming from the provincial and district hospitals — the sources of most of the province’s income last year.
