Cebu City enhances health measures as Lambda threat looms

Cebu City is intensifying its COVID-19 response measures to prevent further COVID-19 transmission and is urging the public to follow health protocols amid the threat of Lambda variant.

“‘Yung ating public health standards, health protocols are the same; except that this time we intensify, we enhance, and strengthen, then adhere to minimum public health standards or protocol,” Department of Health (DOH) Asst. Reg. Dir. Dr. Guy Perez said.

Medical tents have been placed outside hospitals for patients waiting for admission. Around 700 police and military personnel, and force multipliers have been deployed across the city.

The local government has allocated P143 million to barangays for the distribution of food assistance to areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

“We are just going to identify all 80 barangays according to their size, malaki, medium, or maliit. Then we will be giving a form of financial subsidy to all 80 barangays of Cebu City,” City Councilor Raymond Garcia said.

The local government also allocated P12 million to DOH 7 as salary subsidy for medical personnel who will be added to the current hospital workforce of the city.

Meanwhile, Governor Gwen Garcia ordered the mandatory use of air purifiers for public transportation drivers and conductors, and the banning of aircon use for public transportation.

“Naging heightened restrictions ito, because we went beyond by insisting on purely open air public transport and the use of air purifiers with HEPA [high-efficiency particulate air] filters,” Garcia said. – Report from John Aroa/PTV Cebu/AG-rir
