Cebu City PNP probes use of minors as drug couriers

CEBU CITY — Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Julian Entoma on Wednesday ordered the Pardo Police Station to look into reports that minors are being used as drug couriers in Barangay Basak-Pardo, this city.

Entoma issued the order after receiving information from the Cebu City Hall that minors in said barangay are being recruited as gang members and then used by pushers to deliver drugs to customers or buyers.

Cebu Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) head Garry Lao said some parents and residents of Basak-Pardo had been alarmed of said recruitment of minors in their barangay and asked for his assistance on the matter.

Some of these minors were believed to be using drugs as well, as they now had the guts to be drug couriers, said Lao.

“I was so concerned about this report, that’s why I brought this up to the attention of CCPO chief Entoma,” Lao said.

Some parents also suspect that the minors were made to believe that using drugs or delivering them to buyers was just part of their initiation to become a member of the gang. (PNA)
