Cebu cop nabbed for drugs

CEBU CITY — A police officer was arrested early Tuesday morning for use and possession of illegal drugs in Barangay Kasambagan in this city.

Arrested by a joint team of Mabolo and Carbon Police Station was PO1 Jayrome Solano, caught sniffing methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” during a buy-bust operation conducted past midnight.

Mabolo Police Station 4 head Chief Insp. Clark Arriola said Solano was not actually the target of the operation but they learned of his presence in the area when an arrested suspect ratted him out to the raiding Drug Enforcement Unit.

Arriola said they then contacted and coordinated with the Carbon Police Station where Solano is currently assigned.

Seized from Solano were a medium pack and small sachet of “shabu”, totally weighing about 5.7 grams, said Arriola.

Arrested along with Solano was his 23-year-old pot session partner Ma. Ester Montianto.

Because of the arrest of Solano, Police Regional Office-7 Director Chief Supt. Robert Quenery ordered the immediate relief of Carbon Police Station chief Jacinto Mandal. (Luel Galarpe/PNA)
