Boholanos volunteer to clean Panglao Island beaches

TAGBILARAN CITY — Several volunteers from different sectors joined the coastal cleanup on Panglao Island in a show of effort to care about the environment on Tuesday.

Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto led the volunteers who gathered at the beaches of Panglao Island to collect garbage and other rubbish found at the shores.

The trash collected included plastic beverage bottles, plastic containers, and cigarette butts among many others. However, the amount of waste collected was not immediately known.

Several provincial department heads, personnel of different national agencies, and town and barangay officials also joined Chatto in the clean-up drive.

“We do not need laws, regulations, or even reminders if we truly love Bohol,” Chatto said.

He went on to push for the full implementation of environmental laws especially by the local government units.

“Development is a balancing act as its consequences bring displacement. Our role is to preserve the present for the future generations,” the governor said in a statement released later by the Effective Development Communication Unit of the Capitol. (Dave Albarado/PNA)
