Cebu receives first batch of Pfizer, more AstraZeneca vax doses

Around 132,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine arrived in Cebu today (May 11).

The vaccines will be used for the inoculation of Priority List Groups A1 to A3 that includes health workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities.

“For the AstraZeneca, we will distribute that to cover all those na nabigyan ng first dose. Ang Pfizer will have to stay only with Cebu City or the three highly urbanized cities,” DOH VII Spokesperson Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said.

Around 30,000 of the AstraZeneca vaccines that arrived today will be used for second dose coverage on May 15, while the rest will be distributed in Siquijor, Bohol, and other provinces.

The DOH said information drives have played a great role in boosting the vaccination program of the government.

“So far, so good. We have a very good response. Although we still need to do more educational campaigns para sa pag-convince sa ating mga mamamayan na magpabakuna,” Loreche said.

Meanwhile, all Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines sent to Central Visayas have been distributed. More doses are expected to be delivered next week. – Report from John Aroa/PTV-Cebu/AG-jlo-rir
