The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced on Thursday a 50% discount rate for all students and teachers of higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country for the upcoming FIBA World Cup 2023 starting Aug. 25.

In a recorded video, CHED Chairperson J. Prospero de Vera III said this shall be applicable for the Aug. 25 opening ceremony at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

“Kayo po ay makakatanggap ng 50% discount kapag kayo ay bumili ng ticket. Mangyari lamang na ipakita ang inyong valid ID sa ticketing area para makakuha ng discount,” he said.

He noted that official ticketing stalls (TicketNet or SM Ticket outlet) shall only require either student identification cards and Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) IDs for teachers.

Besides discounted tickets for the opening ceremony, the CHED also offers 50% ticket discounts for select games from Aug. 25 to Sep. 2.

These include seats in “the premium upper box, regular upper box, and general admission categories” at the Philippine Arena, Smart Araneta Coliseum, and SM Mall of Asia Arena on the said dates.

De Vera urged the higher education sector to support the Philippine athletes in the upcoming world cup.

“Iniimbita ko ang lahat ng mga estudyante, mga guro, at mga kawani sa lahat ng pamantasan sa buong Pilipinas na manood ng FIBA World Cup 2023… Suportahan natin ang mga atletang Pilipino,” he said.

Earlier, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced the suspension of classes in public schools at all levels and work in all government offices on Aug. 25 in Metro Manila and Bulacan.

This is to give way to the opening ceremony of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, as part of the government’s intensified involvement and participation in sports development.
