Chief of Staff leads meeting on Disaster Response and Relief for Region 2

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Gilbert I. Gapay presided over a meeting intended to address Disaster Response and Relief for Typhoon Ulysses on November 14.

General Gapay led the virtual meeting attended by The Deputy Chief of Staff, AFP VAdm Erick Kagaoan, NOLCOM Commander MGen Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr. and Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3 MGen Edgardo De Leon to ensure rescue, relief and assistance operations particularly for Region 2 are being carried out properly.

The AFP Disaster Response Task Force under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff was activated last October 30 in response to Typhoon Rolly and remained activated for Typhoon Ulysses. Military personnel and other key assets have been deployed in the area as part of the AFP’s Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) preparations. The AFP also sent Search, Rescue and Retrieval (SRR) units which are stationed in 18 municipalities of Cagayan, Isabela, Qurino and Nueva Vizcaya as of November 14.

During the meeting, the AFP Chief of Staff reiterated the need for successful execution of missions pertaining to transportation of relief goods, rescue and retrieval, assistance to medical teams, and providing basic subsistence needs and services to the affected communities. (AFP)
