China hopes Philippines will end travel ban in China amid ‘improving’ situation

The Government of China is fervently hoping the Philippines will consider the lifting of the travel ban imposed on their country since the COVID-19 situation in China is “changing and improving.”

“In the past few days, we have seen that the situation is changing and improving. In Hubei province, the situation is improving remarkably… We understand the kind of concern of the Philippine government to take care of his nationals,” Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian said in an interview with PTV.

“We do hope that, as we’re taking necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus, the Philippine side could reassess the situation in scientific way so that necessary measures will be taken to lift the ban on visitors from China and outside visits by the Philippines,” he added.

The ambassador said they are also implementing strict measures to quell the spread of the disease, so they are optimistic the Philippine government will reflect on it.

He assured the Filipinos in Wuhan are in good condition and that the public has nothing to worry about. He also shared he has been amazed on the resilience of Filipinos.

He also thanked President Duterte for “his leadership in fighting the virus,” and to the Filipinos who have given help to China.

During the special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ meeting on COVID-19 in Ventiane, Lao PDR, various members of ASEAN, together with China, have also discussed ways to strengthen the measures against the disease. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
