Classes suspended in NoCot, Kidapawan City due to ‘Çhedeng’

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Classes in all levels in Kidapawan City and in several towns in North Cotabato have been suspended as the tropical depression Chedeng-turned low-pressure area made landfall in Malita, Davao Occidental Tuesday morning.

“The suspension of classes was not because the city is battered by the typhoon or heavy rain is happening,” Mayor Joseph Evangelista said, adding that the move was more of prevention on the part of schoolchildren.

“This is just a preventive measure so the school children will be spared from any sickness,” the mayor said.

Kidapawan and neighboring areas have been experiencing light to moderate rains the past 48 hours.

Classes were also suspended in other towns in North Cotabato to spare the children from any harm along their way to school amid moderate to heavy downpour.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council has earlier recommended the suspension of all classes in North Cotabato in anticipation of light to moderate rains brought about by the weather disturbance.

In Cotabato City, classes were also suspended for kindergarten to Grade 6 level.

Suspension of classes in high school, both in private and public schools, would depend on the school administrators, according to Aniceto Rasalan, secretary of Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi.
