‘Clean Rider’ anti-crime drive launched in Cagayan Valley

CAMP MARCELO ADDURU, Tuguegarao City — With hopes to deter crimes, the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) in Cagayan Valley region launched its own version of the “Clean Rider” anti-criminality campaign at the Police Regional Office-Region 2 (PRO2) grandstand here on Tuesday.

Chief Supt. Jose Mario Espino, Cagayan Valley regional police director, encouraged stakeholders and the public to urge their families and friends to support the campaign.

“The tagging of stickers on your motorcycle is not merely a ceremony, instead, it is a recognition of partnership between PNP and the responsible motorcycle riders,” he told the audience that included at least 110 motorcycle owners from various riders’ groups in Cagayan.

Espino was upbeat that the campaign would be replicated in other areas of the region.

“The program is a more vigorous, focused and effective plan to totally eliminate crimes perpetrated by motorcycle riding suspects to ensure the safety and security of the public,” he noted.

Under the campaign, Clean Rider stickers will be given to motorcycle owners after thorough inspection and validation of legal documents, to be attached conspicuously in front of their vehicle.

The PNP launched the campaign, noting that many crime incidents are perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects, mostly using vehicles without license plates.

Meanwhile, the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 2 (RPHU-2), headed by its chief, Senior Supt. Christian Haveria, demonstrated the proper execution, handling and driving of a motorcycle after the Clean Rider campaign launching.

The team also showed safety procedures in case of motorcycle crashes to avoid major injuries. (Villamor Visaya, Jr./PNA)
