AFP Chief: suspension of PMA recruitment is a “very drastic move”

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Noel Clement expressed concern over the proposal to suspend for one year recruitment at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

AKO Bicol Representative Alfredo Garbin, Jr. asked the PMA to stop for one year its recruitment amid reports of hazing at the military academy.

Gen. Clement said that a one year suspension of PMA recruitment might adversely affect the profile of officers of the AFP. He pointed out that PMA produces that bulk of the military’s junior officers.

“Halting the recruitment of PMA is a very drastic move. We have to sit down and think all about these measures before we even consider implementing them,” Clement said.
